FAQClick on a question below and you'll be whisked to the answer!
Why do prints from my digital camera have borders? The short answer is "Digital Aspect Ratios ".
This is due to aspect ratios. A 35mm negative 1.5"x1" and a 6x4 print have the exact same aspect ratio of 3:2. As an example, a digital image of 1280x960 DPI has an aspect ratio of 4:3, which, will result in two sides having white boarders on the printed 4x6 print. If you use a digital imaging program to eliminate unwanted areas in your pictures, the aspect ratio will change.
Many newer digital cameras offer a 3:2 resolution setting giving a borderless 4x6 picture. Check your manual to see if your camera has this setting. If you use a digital imaging program such as Adobe Photoshop software or something of a similar mature, you can crop the pictures to exactly the way you want them to look. so long as the aspect ratio is correct. The program can tell you what the image size is in pixels, such as 1440x940 etc. this will let you know what to expect in the final picture. If you take the smallest number, divide by two, then multiply that number by three, that will give you the correct aspect ratio of a 4x6 picture.
Each picture size has a different aspect ratio. A 4x6 print is 3:2 a 5x7 print is 7:5 and an 8x10 is 5:4. Back to Top
